The engine's ticks are light runs: udt-accent leaves GRUB, the homepage
and SDDM on the home pair. When a tick lands on a combination worth
keeping, there was no way to promote it short of re-picking both
images by hand.
"Keep this pair" reruns wallp on the current pair without
UDT_ROTATION, so the full run brings those three along, and makes it
the engine's home, so switching the engine off does not undo it. The
timer restarts, as after a pick by hand. The button shows only while
the engine is on and the pair up differs from home, so it hides once
kept.

A staged wallpaper smaller than its screen (yellow or red border) gets an
"Upscale 4x" button. It rewrites the file with Real-ESRGAN through
stable-diffusion.cpp's `sd-cli -M upscale`, keeping the name, so wallp's
state and the engine's lists, which name it by path, still find it.
sd-cli writes to a dot-named sibling the scan skips, and only a
successful run is moved over the original.
Success needs no [E] line as well as exit 0: with a model that fails to
load, sd-cli logs "[E] new_upscaler_ctx failed", saves the input
unscaled and exits 0 (measured).
The button takes two clicks so the model choice shows before anything is
rewritten. The first runs Imajev-4B, a small Jev-style vision decision
model, through llama-mtmd-cli on a 512 px thumbnail, with a grammar that
allows only A (anime) or B (photo or render); greedy decoding then
returns the higher-logit option, about 1.7 s. The label becomes
"Upscale 4x (anime)" or "(photo)", and the second click upscales with
the anime or the general model. Anything but A, including a failed
decider, picks the general model, safe on any image.
Imajev-4B was chosen by measurement on 22 wallpapers: all 12 anime and 4
photos right, 4 of 6 painted 3D renders called anime (those come out
smoother than painted). The 2B got 17 of 22, leaning to photo; a
three-way prompt adding "painted or render" dropped both to 15 or
fewer, with most anime called painted.

The appearance README gains the burn (the cover, the covered()
handshake and why, the shader cache trap) and the engine (sources,
shuffle, light run, homes, the draft page, where its state lives and
what starts it). The spec records what changed while building it: Prefs
instead of list files, a page of its own, folder sources, the header
buttons, the cover handshake.
AGENTS.md gains the Field.edited trap, which applies to every page with
a field and a button: a click does not end editing, so the value a
button acts on must be read on every change.

A brief flicker was left at the start of the burn on both screens. The
cover drew each picture as soon as it decoded, and the new one, under
the old, usually decodes first, so it showed for a frame or two before
the old one covered it. Both now stay hidden until both are ready; the
surface is clear until then, and swaybg underneath is still showing
the old picture, since wallp waits for covered().

The new wallpaper flashed in for a moment, the old one came back over
it, and only then did it burn. run() started wallp in the same turn as
swapping, while the cover was still mapping and decoding its two
pictures asynchronously, so swaybg swapped under an empty cover.
run() now holds wallp until each cover reports it is drawing (its
pictures decoded, then 50ms for a few frames), with a 1.5s fallback for
a cover that never comes: a missing screen or a picture that fails to
load. A run with nothing to cover starts at once, as before.

The page was the only settings page without the header's buttons, and
it switched the engine from a checkbox beside the interval. Both looked
like the engine had been started when it had not:
- The minutes field saved on editingFinished, which needs Enter or a
focus change. Clicking the checkbox takes neither, so a typed 1 was
left at 30 and the first change was half an hour away.
- Even at the right interval, the first change waited one full
interval, so starting the engine did nothing visible.
The interval and the two sources are now a draft in WallEngine, updated
on every keystroke, and the header carries the state ("running, next
change at hh:mm", "stopped", "unsaved changes") with Reset, Stop and
Start, which reads Apply while running. Start commits the draft, sets
the homes and changes the wallpapers straight away; Apply commits and
restarts the timer. Hearts stay undrafted, written as clicked.

Every wallpaper in the gallery is wide, so hearting a whole folder one
thumbnail at a time is the long way to say "this folder". Each screen
now has a source on the engine page: its hearted list, or one gallery
folder picked by chip, stored as the Wallpapers.groups key in Prefs
(folderH, folderV, "" for the hearts).
A folder that has left the gallery gives an empty pool, so that screen
is left alone rather than quietly falling back to its hearts. The
hearted list stays saved behind a folder source and comes back with the
Hearted chip. Switching source needs nothing from the shuffle: draw()
already drops bag entries that are no longer in the pool.

A page for the wallpaper engine: the on switch, the interval in
minutes, a Next button, and each screen's hearted list with a remove
control and a dim for files the gallery's scan did not find. The module
reads WallEngine.on itself, because a singleton is built on first use
and the timer has to run from session start, page opened or not.

A heart on each gallery thumbnail adds or removes the image from the
engine's list for the screen the picker targets. It is the last child of
the thumbnail, so it sits above the pick MouseArea and takes its own
click, and it is outlined so it reads on a light image.

Ticks go through Wallpapers.run as the light run so the burn plays without
touching GRUB, the homepage or SDDM. Switching off returns each screen to
its home with a full run, deferred until any run in flight finishes. Not
yet registered in the shell; that comes with the settings page.

The engine's timer must set wallpapers the same way Apply does so the
burn plays. run() is that one path; applied stays Apply's alone (save bar,
window close) while finished marks every run's end, which is what the
spread overlay now hides on.

Each round shows every hearted wallpaper once, in random order, so no
picture is skipped or doubled within a round. A reshuffle never opens
with the picture on screen, so the same wallpaper cannot appear twice
in a row across the round boundary.

swaybg has no transitions: wallp kills the running one and starts a new
one, which can show a frame of nothing in between. WallpaperSpread puts a
click-through surface on the bottom layer of each screen, above swaybg and
below every window, holding the old picture while wallp runs. A shader
burns it away over the new one: each pixel's threshold mixes its distance
from a random starting point with fractal noise, and a flame and char band
runs just ahead of the front. The surface goes once wallp has exited, or
at once if it failed, since a failed set may have left either picture.
Wallpapers.apply() announces each swap with the old path before wallp
runs, while current still names it. Sets from a terminal get no effect:
by the time wall_h changes, swaybg has already swapped.
The animation is linear, 3.5s: an ease spent its slow ends where nothing
was left to burn, and read as well under the 2.6s it was given. The
compiled .qsb is committed beside its source, since nothing builds it.
AGENTS.md gains the shader cache trap hit on the way: a running shell
keeps a shader by URL, so a recompiled .qsb under the same name is
ignored.

The chibi 2B companion is retired for now. Its last state is kept in the
signed tag archive/companion (the commit before this one), so it can be
revisited with `git checkout archive/companion`; hypr-theme carries a tag
of the same name for its compositor hooks (typing/delete events and the
SUPER+\ bind).
Removed with it, since nothing else used them: the Companion, phrases
and artists settings pages, the five companion prefs in Prefs.qml and
Prefs.ready, the wallpaper heart (Admired.qml's list), the assistant's
replied() signal and cardTop, and the keybinds reminder's name for the
code:49 bind. The design specs and plans under docs/ stay as history.

At the label's size it was hard to spot. An outline in the base colour

The Theme page applied a scheme on click, so a stray click reinstalled the
whole theme, and it was the one settings page without the header's
commit point. Clicking now stages the scheme (outlined yellow, "selected"),
and Reset / Apply in the header drop or apply it, as the wallpaper page
does. The applied notice and any failure moved into the SaveBar, and the
sidebar marks the page dirty while a scheme is staged.

Shows the live scheme, accent and both wallpapers, the scheme and
wallpapers linking to their own pages, then every udt consumer in a
software and a hardware list, each with a Re-apply button running
`install.sh <name>`, and Re-apply all in the header. The list comes from
`install.sh --list`, so a consumer added in unified-desktop-theme shows up
here with no edit. One run at a time, and none during a scheme switch.
QML's JS engine has no Object.fromEntries either: it threw a TypeError
that only reached the log and left the page without its list. Noted in
AGENTS.md beside String.matchAll.

A save's outcome sat at the bottom of the page, out of sight on a long
one, while "unsaved changes" was already in the header. SaveBar gains
notice, shown once the page is clean, and error, shown in red over the
unsaved mark, since a refused or failed write leaves the draft dirty.
Wired for notifications, HyprIdle, Sunset, Wallpaper and the four Mail
pages, with their longer messages shortened to fit the header. Messages
that are not save results stay in their pages: the icon theme's
immediate apply, Sunset's location detection, the assistant restart.

A bare TextInput defaults activeFocusOnTab to false, unlike the Controls
TextField some pages use, so Tab skipped every field built from one: the
settings search, Field, the qtmaildir, git, autostart, assistant, OBS,
user, VM and network rows, and the calendar editor. Multi-line TextEdits
stay out of the chain.

The thumbnail list scrolled a fraction of a thumbnail per wheel notch,
which is ListView's default step and slow with rows this tall. A
MouseArea over the list (acceptedButtons: Qt.NoButton, so clicks and
hovers still reach the thumbnails) now moves one row per notch, and
keeps a touchpad's pixel delta as it is.
An open folder with many images scrolled its header out of view, so
folding it meant scrolling back to the top. A copy of the header is now
pinned over the list while the topmost row belongs to a folder whose own
header has scrolled off; clicking it folds that folder and positions the
view at its header. The header row became an inline component so the
list and the pinned copy draw the same thing.
Loads clean; not yet confirmed by eye.

The repository had no name of its own, only the framework's. It is now
Keystone, in the README, AGENTS.md, the settings window, notes commit
messages, calctl's PRODID and the user page's User-Agent.
Its files move off quickshell's name too:
~/.config/quickshell/greetings -> ~/.config/keystone/
~/.config/quickshell/obs-scene-icons.json -> ~/.config/keystone/
$XDG_STATE_HOME/quickshell/desktop.json -> $XDG_STATE_HOME/keystone/
~/.config/quickshell is Quickshell's own default config directory (a
bare qs loads its shell.qml), so sharing it was a collision rather than
a home. There is no fallback to the old paths: the files are moved once.
The layer namespaces become keystone-*, and the Hyprland blur rules in
hypr-theme are renamed to match in the same change. A running shell
keeps its old namespaces until restarted.
Left alone: the retired standalone mail and vm shells' namespaces,
which their READMEs keep as history; Quickshell's own app id, binary
and process name; and the repository directory.

The Mail, Assistant and Ask presets pages got a Save and Discard pair in
the page header; the rest still had their own buttons wherever their
page put them: User's Save at the bottom, Wallpaper's Apply and Reset
beside the mock screens, Icons' Apply and Reset under the cursor cards,
HyprSunset's and HyprIdle's Save + Restart in the page. They now all sit
in the header SaveBar, which takes the page's own verbs (Apply and
Reset, Save + Restart) and a busy state.
HyprSunset and HyprIdle had no notion of an unsaved change, so their
button was always live. They now count as changed when what save()
would write differs from what was read, which enables Save only then,
gives Discard (a reload) something to drop, and marks them in the
sidebar; a window open no longer reloads them over unsaved edits. The
staged cursor moved from IconsTab into the Icons singleton so the
header and the sidebar can see it.
Git and autostart act a row at a time, and a theme applies on click, so
those have no bar.

Ten pages in one flat list had stopped reading as a list. A module now
names its group, and the sidebar sorts by it and draws a small heading
where it changes: Account (user, git), Appearance (wallpaper, theme,
icons), Desktop (HyprSunset, HyprIdle, autostart) and Assistant (the
daemon, Ask presets). Groups keep the order their first page is
declared in, so shell.qml's module order still decides.

Moving the appearance files into the desktop added import "../.." after
the last line of each file that began with "import". In Icons.qml that
line is inside the embedded Python cursor script, so the import landed
there: python3 died on a SyntaxError, printed nothing, and every cursor
card stayed empty with nothing in the log. Icons.qml uses no Theme, so
the line goes. Every other moved file has it above its root object.

The mock screens took a third of the width beside the list, which left
both cramped in the settings window. They now sit on top, sized to half
the width and capped so the upright screen stays under 200px, with the
notes and the actions beside them; the folder list takes the full width
and the rest of the height below. The actions are a Flow, so they wrap
instead of clipping in a narrow window.

The appearance shell existed because a wallpaper picker needed more room
than the 600px drawer, so it ran as its own process with a full-screen
overlay. The settings window now gives it that room, and its five tabs
become five settings pages in the desktop process: Wallpaper, Theme,
Icons & cursor, Sunset and Idle. appearance/ is gone, and with it a
process, a keepalive window and a layer blur rule.
The files move to desktop/modules/appearance/ unchanged in what they do.
Each tab gets a small *Module.qml; the window's refresh-on-open calls the
singletons' refresh(), which the panel's show() used to. The two tabs that
were inline Components in AppearancePanel become ThemeTab and
WallpaperTab, owning the notices the panel printed. Sunset, Idle and
Icons drop their own Flickable so the page scrolls them and search can
reveal a row; the wallpaper list virtualises its rows and scrolls itself,
so it takes the page's new viewHeight instead.
Search finds a colour scheme and an icon or cursor theme by name.
The appearance IPC target moves to desktop/shell.qml with the same verbs,
so udt-steps and any keybind change only the path. Git now follows the
appearance pages and autostart in the sidebar.

A tile with no page: appearance stays its own process because a wallpaper
picker needs more room than a 600px drawer, so the tile only fires its
existing IPC. This is the case the contract's activate() exists for.
